I made a goal this year to try to make bread once a week. And I've also been trying to get my kids hooked on wheat bread. So when I found this simple recipe I decided to give it a try and we really like it. The boys just snarf it down! I like that everything in the recipe is found in my food storage. And it's only made with fresh wheat flour so hopefully it has some good nutrients in there. Question: Does the nutrition of my flour differ depending on how fine I grind it?? Just wondering!
Whole Wheat Bread
Adapted from recipe by Susie Nethercott
1 T yeast
½ C very warm water
2 ½ C very hot water
1/3 C canola oil
1/3 C honey/ Black Strap molasses
1 T salt
up to 8 C whole-wheat flour
In small bowl, sprinkle yeast over warm water. Let work 10 minutes. Meanwhile, pour hot water in a large mixing bowl. Add oil, honey and salt. Stirring continually, add 2 cups flour. Then pour yeast mixture into mixing bowl. Stir, and continue to add 4-6 more cups of flour. Mix well. Just add enough flour to make the mixture elastic. Knead dough for 5 minutes. Divide dough in half and form each into a loaf and place in greased bread pan. Let rise 30-40 minutes. Bake 30-35 minutes at 350.
***My flour amount is always different probably because I grind my wheat different each time. I always have to add more. I just add the flour until the dough starts to "clean the bowl".
And if you're splurging it tastes awesome with some homemade honey butter. Okay, so just about any bread tastes awesome with homemade honeybutter. Get the recipe from bestbites.
Julie, Rachael told me you had a great bread recipe--please share!!

I am not sure what recipe she is talking about. Is it the rolls that you like Rachael? Anyway I was going to say that may neighbor never buys bread she always makes all their bread and in her wheat bread she also uses honey and it is really good. I am going to have to try this one. I love homemade bread and I know homemade wheat bread is a lot better for you than the store bought kind.
On a side note has anyone heard from Soon? I was just wondering how she is doing. I hope all is well with her and her family. I miss having her post stuff.
